The Felix Comic Art Podcast celebrates our first birthday this month!

We've had a big year, but it's safe to say that our returning guest has had an even bigger one. We catch up again with David Mandel to find out what he's been up to, and, of course, to chat about the hobby! We cover a wide-range of topics, from looking for grail pieces, to modern superhero art, to art restoration. Dave also shares some collecting advice (#1: Do your homework!).

On top of all that, Dave does his second show-and-tell video for our YouTube channel. Yes, the show-and-tell videos are back! Check out Dave's latest entry here:

The Felix Comic Art Podcast welcomes our first international guest, Dr. Suat Tong Ng! Suat is a physician living in Singapore in his everyday life. In his off-time, he's an original art collector, comics critic, and the brainiest guy I know! We talk about European art, underground art, his feud with Eddie Campbell, Frazetta's pornographic drawings, and more!

Check out our website at www.felixcomicart.com for the best in modern comic art, including work from Paul Pope! Follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Leave a rating and review for the podcast on iTunes. And enjoy the show!

This month, we visit Brooklyn, New York to see one of our favorite artists, Paul Pope! Even better, Paul has now joined Felix Comic Art and we will soon have his original art for sale. Commissions, too! Sign up for the mailing list at www.felixcomicart.com. I'll keep everyone informed as new details are available.

Paul knows comics and talks about his original art collection. Find out who are his favorites, and why. Great stuff here, and I look forward to our next chat.

We follow up Paul with our NYCC roundtable, featuring New York City's most esteemed collectors including returning guest Gene Park, and newcomers to the podcast, Dan Pottick and Rotem Bar-Kokhva. Like me, these guys are nuts about the hobby and I think that comes through during our discussion. We talk about vintage art vs. new art, the shifting demographics of the hobby, and oh yeah, The Cabal and DARK KNIGHT RETURNS!

This month, I stay local and talk to fellow Bay Area resident, Erik Larsen. Erik is, of course, best known as the artist/creator of the long-running series SAVAGE DRAGON, as well as being one of the founding members of Image Comics. But he's also a dedicated original comic art collector. Hear his thoughts on collecting for aesthetics vs. nostalgia, the art of Todd McFarlane and Rob Liefeld, how he acquired his Holy Grail, and much more!

Joining me as co-host for the second half is fellow Kirby obsessive (and mutual friend), Glen Gold.

And our show-and-tell video returns this month on YouTube! Check out Erik's entry and subscribe to our channel for more original comic art videos!

Convention season is in full swing and this month, we're at the show of the year: San Diego Comic-Con! It's a chance to see friends from all over the world, so i get to sit down with someone from the other side of the country, Gene Park. Gene is a well-known name in the comic art hobby, perhaps most for his opinionated posts on the CGC message boards. As a professional investor, Gene often writes about the state of the market, both present and future. So this episode is very much centered around the financial side of the hobby. For those who dislike such talk, this is the one to skip! We'll see you next month!

We continue our roundtable discussions in the second half, where Gene and I are joined by a former guest who has now become a show regular, Andy Robbins!

Our last episode was one of our most popular yet, so for our eighth installment, we hit the road yet again, this time to Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC! My guest for the first hour is Benno Rothschild. Benno is the former editor of the CFA-APA (Comic and Fantasy Art, Amateur Press Association) and a 40+ year collector of original comic art. Benno asked to talk about enjoying the hobby without being a high-roller. So the unofficial theme of this episode is "collecting on a budget".

But no episode would be complete without some mention of Frank Miller's THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS (sorry!). Check out his historic DKR splash, along with other favorites, on his show-and-tell video on our YouTube channel:

https://youtu.be/8H787-dctUw

Our second hour is a roundtable discussion with artist Nick Pitarra and collectors Shannon Slayton and Jimmy Lawrence where we talk commissions! We've all had a lot of experience getting them and share the good, the bad, and the ugly!

The Felix Comic Art Podcast goes on the road to Seattle for Emerald City Comic-Con to bring back a special double-sized episode! In the first half, I talk to longtime collector Andy Robbins where we discuss how we built our comic art collections, our philosophies and strategies, what we did right and what we did wrong. Learn the Andy Robbins Method...it will help you with your collecting.

Can't get enough? There's more! In the second half, we invite former guests, John Butler and Lambert Sheng, to join us for a roundtable discussion. We talk about finding new art at shows, why some dealers have done better than others, our love/hate relationship with Artist's Editions, Andy's terrible ideas for "improving" CAF, and more!

The Felix Comic Art Podcast welcomes SCOTT DUNBIER to the show! Scott has been a key figure in the development of the original art hobby. He currently serves as the Special Projects Editor at IDW (where he created the wildly popular Artist's Edition format). Before that he worked with Jim Lee and Alan Moore at Wildstorm/DC. And before that, he was an original art dealer!

Listen as Scott shares stories of hanging out with Jack Kirby, bringing WATCHMEN art to the US, gambling with Klaus Janson, and more!

And, of course, check out Scott's original art show-and-tell video here:

The fourth episode of the Felix Comic Art Podcast features EAST OF WEST artist/co-creator Nick Dragotta! Nick turns the tables on me, and interviews me for the first half of the show. We touch on how I got started as a collector, and what I do now as a rep. If you just want to hear about Nick, fear not! The second half is devoted to him.

We also continue our related original art show-and-tell video series on YouTube. This time, I talk about some of my favorite commissions, from such artists as Steve Rude, Sanjulian, Frank Miller, James Jean, and Felix Comic Art's own Nick Pitarra. Check it out here!:
